Shiloh National Military Park
When infantry attacks against the Hornet’s Nest failed, the Confederates concentrated 11 batteries of artillery to bombard the position, allowing their infantry to encircle and capture General Benjamin Prentiss and nearly 2,100 Union soldiers.

ReplyDeleteWhat a war that must have been! No war is fun, I suspect, but that one was a bloody mess all around. And the aftermath was not what you'd call wonderful either. I lost count on the cannons in your picture when I got to 10, but there must be at least 15. Shiloh is one of the Civil War battlefields we have visited. Thanks for bringing us back with you!
